Rules
IS is the most important word in the game. A noun IS property gives the named object that property, as long as the rules hold.
Noun1 IS Noun2 converts all instances of the first noun to the second. This happens immediately and is not undone if the rule is aborted.
Nouns are nouns when two nouns are the same preventing the conversion of nouns. This can override all noun modifications but cannot undo past changes.
There are some exceptional variant cases. TEXT IS NOUN will inevitably freeze the level because of any. A noun IS TEXT replaces all copies of that noun with its textual representation.
Note: If a noun is not an attribute, then the noun cannot have that attribute, even if other rules provide ft. One NOT overrides all rules that provide properties, including regulations built into the level.
If a NOT noun is an attribute, then all nouns other than named nouns have an attribute except TEXT.
Two consecutive NOTs cancel each other out.
HAS: Noun1 HAS Noun2 creates noun2 when noun1 is destroyed.
MAKE: Noun1 MAKE Noun2 causes Noun 1 to create Noun 2 whenever it moves.
AND: Joins two noun phrases or attributes phrases together into a compound word that applies to both. For example, noun AND noun IS attribute or noun IS attribute AND attribute.
NOUN Is the Pa property, AND Na oun causes an object transformation that makes the first property redundant. AND is not required between multiple rules.
ON: Noun1 ON Noun2 behaves like a single noun but applies only to instances of Noun1 that overlap Noun2.
Property
Throughout this section, properties of s mean “objects with those properties.” For example, [You] means “an object with the property You.”
You: You decide which object reacts to your control. Many other attributes only trigger contact with [you]. There may be several such objects.
If [you] are not present and there is no transform to create it, the level will freeze, and you will have to undo or restart to continue.
As a particular case, if Empty Is You, pressing a control will push all objects in the level in the direction you pressed if there is a space in the opposite direction.
In this case, other interactions with [You] will stop (e.g., [Win] cannot be collected when Empty Is You).
- Victory: If [you] overlap, you win the level.
- Stop: Prevent other objects from passing through. Things do not overlap.
- Push: Moving from an adjacent square moves one square away from the moving object. Objects do not overlap. Text Is Push always applies.
- Pull Acts like a stop when an object enters (unless the same noun is also a push) but moves one square towards it if an object in an adjacent square moves immediately away. Things do not overlap.
- Sync: Destroys other objects and self when overlapping with other things.
- Weak: Destroys itself if it overlaps another object or blocks its movement.
- Defeat: Destroys all [you] it touches. It doesn’t destroy other objects. Contrary to the name, you may not be immediately defeated if another [you] exists. Defeats take precedence over victories.
- Hot: Blows off steam but has no other effects than the interactions below.
- Melt: Destroys on overlap with Hot.
- Fall: Always move as far down/south as possible if space is empty on each step.
- Tele: Objects overlapping [Tele] are moved to coincide with other [Tele] at every step.
- Float: [Float] does not count as overlapping objects that are not [Float] (and vice versa). Even if they are on the same square, effects such as Push and stop that do not involve overlap are not affected by Float.
- Open: When stacked on a random [Shut], it destroys itself, and the [Shut] overlaps.
- Shut: Has no effect by itself other than interacting with [Open] above.
- Move: All overlapping objects move in the direction they point.
- Red, Blue: Change the color of the item. There are no other effects.
- Best: Makes the object shiny. Perhaps only for cosmetics.
Map
The game starts at level 0 and eventually opens to provide access to 12 stories and a series of sub-worlds. In the initial part of the game, only eight levels are available.
Level 0: Baba is you
Walk right until you reach the flag.
Level 1: Where do I go?
Crush the “Wall Stops”, climb up and form “Flags Win”, then touch the flags.
Level 2: Now, what is this?
Crush the “flag is stop” and move up to form “flag is win” then touch any flag.
Level 3: Out of Reach
Push the first rock into the nearby water. Go down and break the “flags win” and make the “rocks win”. Go back and touch another rock.
Level 4: Out of reach yet
Push the rock up, then align it horizontally and slide it to the right to break the “Skull is Defeated”. Now walk up to touch the flag.
Level 5: Volcano
Carefully press “Baba is you” to the left, then form “lava is push”. Slide the lava to the right so you can touch the flag.
Level 6: No Entry
Break the “wall is stop” and go left to create the “wall is you”. Now climb only twice so that the wall touches the flag.
Level 7: Lawn
You can pass through walls in this level. Move “flag” and “win” to form “flag wins” without disturbing “Baba is you”, then touch the flag.
At this stage, you should have 8 spores, 0 blossoms, and 0 bonuses. You now have access to the first subworld, The Lake.
Lake
There are 13 standard levels and two additional levels. All are available during this visit. At least eight must be completed to clear the area.
1. Level Lake-1: Ice Water
You can touch the flag by going down and breaking the “and sink” and pushing the “wall” into one of the edge jellyfish.
2. Level Rake-2: Spin
Start by clearing the first rock and forming “Stars Push and Sink.” Push the star into the skull to remove it. Now slide “Crab” up once, press “and” under “Crab,” then slide both down to make “Crab and Baba are you.” You can now move the crab down to reach the flag.
3. Level Rake-3: Affection
Make “Keke is love,” and then touch your love heart.
4. Level Lake-4: Pillar Yard
Line up a series of 3 poles and pass the star so that one of the poles is on top of the flag. Now form “pillar is Baba” without interfering with “Baba is you,” and you will already touch the flag.
5. Level Lake-5: Brick Wall
Leave “Baba is you” and cross it with “Baba is winning.”
6. Level Rake-6: Lockdown
Slide the first key into the first door and the second into the second door. Now move “rock” out to swap “key” to form both “rock is open” and “rock is a push.” Push the rock into the third door and then touch the flag.
7. Level Rake-7: Novice Locksmith
Form “key is open” intersects with “key is push” using the five available words. Push the key into the door to open it. You can bring the “push” into the second room to form a “door push” and then push the door to touch the flag.
8. Level Rake-8: Locked
It breaks “walls stop” and forms “walls jelly” so you can walk outside. Leave “Baba is you” and cross it with “Baba is winning.”
9. Level Rake-9: No change
Break “Rock is Rock” to make “Rock is Flag” and touch the flag.
10. Level Lake-10: Two Doors
“key is closed” form – “key is open” also exists, so the key is discarded. Now go down and make a “flag is won.” Slide the “door” into the “Keke” to make “the door is you,” then go and touch the flag.
11. Level Lake-11: Jelly Throne
Form “Jelly Baba” in the top half of the level. Use another Baba to form a “flag is won” at the bottom of the level. Now touch the flag with Baba.
12. Level Lake-12: Crab Storage
Keep “flag is pushed” and form “flag is open,” then push the flag to the door. Form “Baba is Baba” vertically. Move the “crab” to make a “crab wins” shape, then touch the crab.
13. Level Lake-13: Theft
The “stars are open” and “walls are closed” move vertically. Push the star into the side wall to escape outside. Go to the top and push the “key” up to break “key is def” and form “key is a win.” Go back inside and touch the key.
